YOU must determine your purpose.
Through the ages, philosophers and great thinkers have reminded us time and time again that having a clearly defined purpose is central to success in life. Helen Keller once wrote that “Happiness comes from fidelity to a worthy purpose,” and William James stated, “To begin to think with purpose is to enter the ranks of those strong ones who recognize failure as one of the pathways to attainment.” To achieve our goals we must engage the power of our will. This simply means having the strength to carry out the commitments we make, the ability to control our own behavior. To do this we must utilize the power that comes from identifying and committing to our purpose.
What does it mean to determine purpose?
This describes what is to be obtained. To achieve your purpose, you must have a very clear picture of exactly what you desire to accomplish. Ask yourself: Do I have a clearly defined goal that is meaningful to me? Is it written down? Am I truly committed to its obtainment? Am I willing to do what is required of me every day?
By defining why you are doing something, you will be empowered to see it though. When you have clearly defined the why, you will find the way.
To fulfill your intentions, you must be unwavering. Without strong determination of the will, failure and disappointment can overtake you.
To achieve goals, you must have a mindset that you will never give up. To do this will require you to be diligent, constant, and steadfast.
Remember what Benjamin Disraeli and Andrew Carnegie said about purpose:
Nothing can withstand the power of the human will
if it is willing to stake its very existence
to the extent of its purpose.
Study any person who is known to be a permanent success, and you will find that he has a definite major goal;
he has a plan for the attainment for this goal;
he devotes the major portion of his thoughts and his efforts to the attainment of this purpose.
