Attitudes can change faster than the weather. Do you ever think about how quickly your attitude changes? As leaders, we have to be on guard. Because how we think determines how we behave.
I was thinking about something. I’m about to go through security over here, and I’m in Orlando this morning. Yesterday, it was 93 degrees. Now, this is the middle of April that I’m doing it, but I’m going to get on a plane, and I’m going to go about three hours north up into the Midwest. Yesterday, they got one inch of ice, not snow but ice. In about three hours, I’m going to get in such a different environment. Isn’t that amazing!
Do you ever think about how quickly your attitude changes, like those temperatures are going to change in just a short period of time? Well, we have to be on guard for these kind of things because how we think determines how we behave. It’s that attitude. I defined attitude many years ago for myself that an attitude was a selected thought process that is manifested into action. It can change just as quick as these temperatures are going to change for me today. Sometimes it didn’t take three hours; it’s three minutes, or sometimes three seconds.
But you as a leader need to be in control of your attitude. That’s what’s going to make the big difference for you. So let me encourage you to always be aware of your attitude, know what you’re thinking and how you’re thinking. Be in charge of your attitude because you don’t want to create a cold environment for your organization.
